| Many years ago, the Villa was a small fisherman's cottage, and its subsequent and thoughtful extension has transformed it into one of the most outstanding properties in the area.
There are gorgeously panoramic Indian Ocean views from virtually every room, and during July, through to September, we are entertained by Humpbacked and Southern Right Whales, making their way to their breeding grounds off the coast of Mozambique.
The Villa is a 'birders' delight, with a whole host of regular visitors on show. When we first arrived at our new home we were astonished by the multitude of different species that visited the grounds. So, one of our first, and lesser expenditures was to buy a good reference book to help us identify our feathered friends.
Within a few minutes of the Villa Albani is Clansthal Beach, a simply beautiful unspoiled stretch of golden sand washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The beach is quite secluded, and mainly enjoyed by the residents of Clansthal, and the occasional shore fisherman. To stand on the beach and watch the sun rise over the oceans horizon is a sight that will remain forever in the memory.
For the golfer, well, you'll think you're in Heaven. There are lots of magnificent courses within easy reach of the Villa Albani, including the highly rated and daunting Selbourne (modeled on Augusta in the USA). Selbourne is just 10 minutes away. Other outstanding courses include San Lameer, Zimbali, and Mount Edgecombe.
Virtually opposite the Villa is the world renowned Aliwal Shoal, universally regarded as one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world. We are able to make all the necessary arrangements for Guest/s wanting to dive the Shoal, from complete novices, to advanced open water divers.
Whilst the emphasis at the Villa Albani is firmly focused on setting and maintaining exceptionally high standards, the ambience is definitely one of informality and relaxation.
